The Elan Valley Authentic Team Model
Performance
A high performance culture has:-
- A leadership style that puts people, purpose and performance first
- Disciplined people who know what needs doing, what the boundaries are and have the ability to make informed decisions without continued reference to leaders
- A “team brain” with a higher IQ than any individual team member
- A strong learning culture where success is celebrated and errors are discussed openly
- The right people in the right places and the courage to develop or move people who are in the wrong place
- An atmosphere where challenge and discussion are welcome but when decisions are reached members align themselves with the team decision
- A “stop doing” list and the courage to use it!
- A support network that enables individuals to move into the challenge zone
Purpose
PURPOSE - What is our business?
We need to be very clear about our core purpose and have the courage to redefine it as circumstances change.
Our considerations must include:
- What is our primary function, why was this organisation created?
- What does our market need/want?
- What we can be better than our competitors at?
- Do we have a passion to be the best?
- What are the economic drivers?
Research has shown that in sustainable high performing organisations this clarity is rarely defined by one individual. If it is then the clarity diminishes as soon as that individual leaves.
If it is defined (and re-defined) using the “team brain” it enables people to make informed decisions without continued reference to the author.
